Accessibility, noise, room, location, and capacities are all factors to think about while venturing out with the elderly. We could go on and on, but here are just a few ways to spend quality time with Grandma and Grandpa in Perth that will be fun for everyone involved.

The Best Places In Perth To Take Your Grandparents

There is a general consensus that the current residents of Washington State are extremely lucky. We are unrestricted in our ability to engage in social activities, go to stores, take trips, and otherwise enjoy this stunning state.

While it's important to keep an eye out for potential danger and keep some distance from others, it's also crucial to keep making memories with those we care about.

Family members are strongly encouraged to pay The Richardson a visit. Our lifestyle programme provides residents with a wide range of opportunities to get out and about, but they are also welcome to explore the local area on their own or with loved ones if they are able to do so.

We thought it would be fun to highlight some of the lovely activities you can enjoy around Perth with your "coming of age" loved one this week.

Take A Walk Through Kings Park.

This may seem like a silly question, but when was the last occasion you went to Kings Park to take a stroll on a Saturday afternoon? A large parking lot (with plenty of ACROD spots) and wheelchair-accessible picnic sites and restaurants contribute to the site's accessibility; it is, after all, Perth's most popular tourist attraction.

Even while the stroll around the park isn't too taxing, those who would rather not to use their legs at all can take use of the Perth Explorer Bus's paid hop-on/hop-off service, which is accessible to those using wheelchairs.

    perth swan yacht club restaurant

Lunch Is Available At The Swan Yacht Club.

The Swan Yacht Club at East Freo provides prime riverbank views alongside a roomy restaurant & outdoor area, all of which provide plenty of room to spread out.

The Sunday crowds tend to be full of families with young children, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you're seeking for peace and quiet, you might want to stop by during the week for the lunch special, which typically includes a middy of beer or wine (if the grandees don't mind a sip).

Set Up A Picnic In Hyde Park.

Among the most popular and well-known places in the heart of Perth, Hyde Park provides a relaxing afternoon park experience with its convenient location, shady trees, winding paths, and public barbeques (just bring some outdoor chairs).

Parking lots and enough parallel parking are available on all surrounding streets, and there are restroom facilities at both the park's eastern and western ends. Get up some pastries and coffee at the Chu on William Street, or take an old-fashioned picnic lunch.

Take Advantage Of The Local Parks And Botanical Gardens.

Known as a parkland oasis, Perth is home to many beautiful green spaces, parks and gardens where you can take it easy and have a picnic without friends. These Swan River foreshore greenbelt are just one of the city's 16 major parks.

You can find seating, water fountains, restrooms, and even fitness stations in most of them. These locations are perfect for a leisurely stroll, a BBQ or picnic, or an entire day spent with the grandchildren by the elderly.

    Participate In A Computer Club.

There are 34 computing clubs in Western Australia, as reported by Australian Senior Computer Club Association. Why not join a group and socialise with other elders while learning to use the internet and computers to their full potential? Some of these groups also offer no-cost tutorials and materials for getting started with computers and other forms of IT.

    Investigate The City's Various Districts.

There is a wide variety of neighbourhoods and centres in Perth, within each character and set of attractions. A great area to spend a day, for instance, Wolf Alley is filled with cute cafes, pubs, and shops. Moreover, Northbridge has great shopping and cafes, and the Subiaco district in Leederville is full of vintage and antique stores.

Spend The Day In Fremantle's Seaside Port.

You can be in the heart of Fremantle from Fremantle Harbour in under an hour. Attractions like the Arts Centre or the Old Courthouse can be found in this charming harbour. Seeing the Shipwreck Gallery and the Maritime Museum is just an absolute must. After a day of sightseeing, unwind at a local watering hole or visit a craft brewery.

At The Cultural Centre, You Can Immerse Yourself In The Arts.

The Western Australian Museum, Art Gallery of Nsw, Library and Information Services of Western Australia, Perth Academy of Contemporary Arts, and The Blue Room Theatre are all located in the Cultural Centre of Perth.

The Edinburgh Central Train Station is conveniently located nearby, making it easy to see the city's many museums, theatres, and galleries. See the Culture Centre's website for upcoming events and other details.

Participate In Wildlife, Plant, And Scientific Research.

Participating in large-scale studies is a great way to put your passion for birding or wildlife spotting to good use. There is a constant need for volunteers to assist with bird conservation surveys conducted by organisations like Birdlife Australia. Volunteers can assist ClimateWatch by identifying certain plant and wildlife species using only a smartphone and an appropriate app.

Such data analysis programmes are a great way to be active in your community and use your brain.

    Go sailing

If sailing is something you've always wanted to attempt, now might be the time to do so, as Perth is a fantastic place to do so. You can sign up for a sailing club or form your own crew.

There are a number of clubs in the area, including the Royal Perth Sailing Club (which runs basic training at its Explore Sailing Centre), the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, and the Royal Freshwater Gulf Yacht Club.

    Plan A Day Trip

If you enjoy taking day trips every once in a while, you will find that the area around Perth is rich with interesting places to visit. Take a day trip with other seniors or plan your own adventure:

    • This is Rottnest Island, also known as Rottnest Island13, just 19 miles from Perth, is a haven of beauty because to its magnificent beaches, coral reefs, and spectacular scenery, and its renowned charming quokka.
    • Swan Valley Vineyards - Swan Valley is about 25 minutes from Perth and is home to even more than 40 vineyards. Ride your bike through the vineyards, take a trip up the river and relax with a glass of wine while taking in the sights.
    • The Peel Inlet and the Mandurah Estuary - It takes less than two hours to reach the 155 square miles of waterways that make up the Suitable for all applications Estuary & Peel Inlet from Perth, making them a popular destination for boating & wildlife watching. Take a tour or rent a boat and observe dolphins and birds before returning to shore to feast on river prawns or blue swimmer crabs.

Participate In A Local Leisure Activity Centre.

When you join a club, you gain access to an entire new set of friends in the area and get involved in interesting events on a regular basis. Across Perth's neighbourhoods and areas, you can find senior and/or form of recreation centres and RSL organizations that host a variety of events and activities for their members.

They might be anything from making crafts to watching movies to working out to having lunch with friends to playing games to going on field trips. Markets, wineries, restaurants, and even plant nurseries are all potential destinations for excursions.

    Volunteer With A Community Organisation.

Becoming involved in community activities is a great way to make a difference in your area. There are a variety of volunteer options in your area, ranging from community service to environmental protection to fundraising and sports. One of the best ways to be physically and mentally well while also making a positive impact on your community is to volunteer your time.

    Experience Some Culture In Northbridge.

Our Perth Cultural Centre is home to an abundance of dining and entertainment venues, all of which can be reached with minimal effort. Donations are accepted just at Art Gallery of Western Australia, where there are always excellent exhibits; at PICA, across the walkway; and at PICA Bar, next door, where you may enjoy a bite to eat or a drink with the locals beneath the cool canopy of trees.

Play A Game Of Lawn Bowls Or Croquet.

Both young and old can have a great time at lawn bowls & croquet clubs, and the low prices of both the games and the food and drink make them especially attractive.

The cost of rental is low at most Perth establishments, and free bar talk is always available. Among of my favourite spots in Western Australia are the North Perth Bowling Club, the Mosman Park Bowling Club (which boasts breathtaking river vistas), and the Mt. Lawley location of a West Australian Croquet Association.

High Tea Is Available At The Harbour Master.

While one may be geared more at Grandma (though we know Grandpa won't turn down a tasty sandwich platter), there are nevertheless numerous other great High Tea establishments in and around our fine city.

We recommend the Harbour Master within Freo's Esplanade Hotel due to its reasonable rates (from $38 per person) and convenient location right on the esplanade, where you can burn off all that delicious food with a stroll. We also recommend the High Tea in Haven Lounge at The Westin and the delicious food at Highgate's Rochelle Adonis.

perth jack & jill restaurant breakfast

Breakfast At Jack & Jill In The Hills

It's easy to get to Kalamunda from the city, and once you get there, you'll find a plethora of great places to eat and drink coffee.

You can easily check out the atmosphere at several different nearby restaurants, including Jack & Jill, Higher Ground, Esther Café, Harrison Street Pantry, Mason & Bird, and more.

Stop by Zanthorrea Nursery, which has an excellent selection of Australian native plants, on the way back; your grandmother or grandfather will appreciate it.

Tea For Two (Or Three Or More)

It doesn't matter what day it is, tea and scones are always welcome, and in Perth, you can find them at a number of different establishments.

There are rumours that the scones at Cottage Tea Rooms & Lavender Cafe are the best in all of Perth. They're both in the Swan River, so you can use that as an excuse to take a drive in the afternoon.

Masonmill Gardens' cafe has a wide selection, including warm scones with homemade jam. Masonmill is located thirty minutes from of the city, amidst 10 acres of colourful flowers and a delightful 18-hole mini-golf course.

The High Tea at Remy Adonis in Highgate and the High Tea at Epicurean in Crown Perth are two local options if you're looking for something more upscale.

Faith, the Richardson's resident pastry specialist, makes scones once a week, much to the delight of the building's employees and tenants. Nonetheless, if you'd want to give scones a shot at home, here's our secret recipe.

    It's A Road Trip

If you and your family are looking for some excitement, you won't have to go far to find some amazing and historic destinations.

York, a famous history town founded in 1831, is located a little over an hour's drive west of Perth and makes for a wonderful day trip. The canola flower fields and the historic Gaol and courtroom are at their best in the middle of August.

Visit New Norcia, Australia's one and only monastic settlement, in the north. This one-of-a-kind town was established by Spanish Benedectine monks in 1847 and is only a two-and-a-half-hour journey from Perth. Stop by the Salvado Roadhouse, which is owned by a monastery, for a bite to eat and some of their intriguing history (and a piece of their world-famous nut cake, of course).

Taking the train south to Mandurah is an option if nobody wants to drive. If you haven't visited our lovely coastal town lately, we highly recommend making the trip.

We recommend a visit to a marina for some shopping, gelato, and lunch. You could also go a bit further to either the Three Rivers Brewery or Old Coastal Rd brewery to sample some locally brewed beer. An alternative is to book a waterway tour, which is enjoyed by visitors of all ages. There's a chance you'll see a group of dolphins.

Of course, if you're looking for anything other than water, you can always head east towards the hills and check out one of the numerous fascinating attractions in this breathtaking part of WA. Open Thursday through Sunday, Core Cider Company is known for its excellent locally made cider, scenic cafe, and expansive garden featuring a playground again for kids. You might also visit Mundaring Weir, one of the world's biggest engineering projects, and enjoy the local wilderness at the same time.
